Vienna Contemporary Cinema Prize 2017
“To remember, sometimes you need other archaeological tools says the voice over in Hiwa K’s Pre-Image (Blind as the Mother Tongue). The video depicts the artist walking across fields, wastelands, estates, going from Turkey to Athens and then to Rome, a path that mirrors his own journey as a child, when he fled Iraqi Kurdistan and reached Europe by foot. His “Pre-images” are fragments of a path whose final destination is uncertain.”
Το 2016 εν όψει της Documenta 14 είχα την χαρά και την τιμή να συμπράξω με τον πολυβραβευμένο καλλιτέχνη Hiwa K. , γνωστό για τα σαφώς πολιτικοποιημένα έργα του με αναφορές στο μεταναστευτικό , τους πολέμους και την κοινωνική ανισότητα. Το “Blind as the mother tongue”, είναι μια σύντομη καταγραφή της διαδρομής του Hiwa K. στην βόρεια Ελλάδα και την Ιταλία που πάντα εκτελεί την ίδια – πανομοιότυπη performance. Τα περισσότερα πλάνα γυρίστηκαν στην Β. Ελλάδα (Κομοτηνή, Ξάνθη, Καβάλα) την Ιταλία (Αγκόνα, Ρώμη) και Αθήνα (Ακρόπολη, Λιμάνι Πειραιά).
Το “Pre-Image: Blind as the mother tongue” απέσπασε το βραβείο Cinema στη διεθνή διοργάνωση Vienna Conemporary το καλοκαίρι του 2017.
